La technique de l'assemblage fut l'une des sources les plus vivifiantes de la sculpture de Rodin, celui-ci réutilisant plusieurs fois les parties de ses modèles favoris pour en faire naître de nouveaux. Le Torse de la Centauresse fut choisi par le sculpteur pour s'associer à la création de La Centauresse (avant 1887; Tancock 20-5), mais aussi d'Orpheus (1892; Tancock 20-3).
Rodin's method of assemblage - integrating figures from an earlier date into his new works - was one his greatest resources. As an exemple of this technique, the Torse de la Centauresse served as inspiration for La Centauresse (by 1887; Tancock 20-5), as well as for Orpheus (1892; Tancock 20-3).
