Torse masculin, dit 748 (the inventory number for the terracotta version), is a study for the Centaur's Torso from the Gates of Hell (Tancock, no. 1), and remains perfectly identifiable from the curved spine and the folds in the figure's abdomen. The powerful presence of the present work surely explains why this subject was selected to be cast in bronze from the signed terracotta original, which was not always the case for small figure studies.
