Gio Pomodoro, younger brother of the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, set out in the early 1950s to create gold and silver jewelry with imagery related to action painting. The two brothers exhibited their jewelry in 1956 at the Venice Biennale and in 1959 Gio was awarded first prize for sculpture at the Paris Biennale.

Gio Pomodoro personally supervised the execution of his limited edition pieces for GEM.
