Maya Widmaier Picasso has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Picasso was always amused and fascinated by children and their activities. He painted many portraits of his own children, Paulo, Claude, Maya and Paloma. The sitter in the present drawing is Lucia Dominguín, the oldest daughter of Lucia Bosé and Luis Dominguín. With lively, expressive, yet delicate and precise pencil lines, Picasso depicts the young girl wearing an elaborate traditional Spanish dress. The artist's reveals his tenderness for the child in the detail of his pencil rendering, as well as through the affectionate inscription, 'Para mia novia Lucia', Picasso playfully dedicates his drawing 'to his girlfriend Lucia'.

(fig. 1) Lucia Bosé's children: Miguel (the tallest), Lucía (lifting her hand) and Paola (in the centre) playing dressed up in Samosaguas with their cousin Daniella, Bettina and Simone.
