Marilyn's legs featured prominently in what has surely become the most iconic Marilyn image of them all, the scene from The Seven Year Itch (1955) in which she stands over a Manhattan subway grating and squeals with pleasure as her skirt billows upward.

This picture was made early one morning on location on Lexington Avenue with a number of photographers present including Winogrand and Elliott Erwitt (see following lot). The scene as it appears in the film was subsequently shot on a Hollywood set.
