The present Rolex reference 6262 must be considered one of the most exotic variants of the celebrated Cosmograph family to be offered at public auction.

Its outstanding rarity resides in its dial, featuring the much sought-after pulsometre scale instead of the plain seconds and fifths of a second divisions. The pulsometre allows measuring the number of heartbeats per minute. Usually calibrated for 15 or 30 beats, the hand is stopped at the patient's 15th or 30th heartbeat; the scale on the dial then indicating the relevant frequency per minute.

According to our researches, the present reference 6262 is believed to be one of only four examples of this celebrated reference fitted with such dial. Two variants of the 6262 pulsation model are known:

-one, such as the present watch, without the "Daytona" designation above the 12 hour register and continuous fifths of a second scale
-the second, featuring the red "Daytona" above the 12 hour counter, with interrupted fifths of a second scale immediately before and after all the applied steel baton hour markers

This watch is not only an outstanding rarity in very good overall condition but most importantly also an extremely attractive chronograph, one of the best-looking watches for occasional wear.

The other three known examples of reference 6262 in stainless steel with a pulsation dial are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp322 & 323 and 324 & 325, and in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 256 & 257.
