With Patek Philippe special presentation box, Certificate of Origin, product literature and corrector.
Consigned by the original owner, the present watch has never been offered in the public and is the first known double sealed example of the reference 5350 to appear at auction to date.
Isochronism is the key to every measurement of time based on any form of vibration. The greater the regularity of the vibration, the better the movement can be adjusted to achieve high rate accuracy.
In the constant quest for perfect isochronism in portable mechanical watches, Patek Philippe presented in 2006 the second limited edition of the "Advanced Research" series - Reference 5350 with the Spiromax balance spring and silicon escape wheel.
Spiromax is a totally new type of balance spring made of Silinvar, a revolutionary material based on monocrystalline silicon obtained by a vacuum oxidation process that allows it to compensate for temperature variations. This patented silicon-based material is the result of research financed in partnership with the Swatch Group and Rolex. Its perfectly concentric nature, i.e. the symmetrical expansions and contractions of the balance spring in relation to its centre, is achieved by the patented "Patek Philippe terminal curve" lying within the plane of oscillation and allows the Spiromax spring to be crafted three times thinner than a Philips or Breguet overcoil.
The new geometry includes an integral balance staff and stud attachment, offering perfect isochronous vibrations regardless of temperature variations, position of the movement and magnetic radiation.
