Gawde's vibrant and textured paintings are pared down to energetic, essential forms reflecting the artist's concentration on geometry and the spiritual traditions of India. Precise yet fluid, his arcs are carefully calibrated and his roller and scraper blade techniques reveal brilliantly incandescent colors emerging from varying levels of impasto. Notably, Gawde is one of four Indian contemporary artists selected for the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009), forming part of the exhibition titled 'Making Worlds' and showcasing his new mechanized, steel sculpture Alliteration.
