MID 16TH CENTURY, TITLED TO REVERSE, FAINT INK INSCRIPTION AND A· MARK
Painted with the musical contest between Apollo and Marsyas, the laurel-crowned Apollo on the left with his viol, Marsyas seated with bagpipes in the centre, another crowned figure between them, possibly depicting King Midas, Marsyas depicted again bound to a tree on the right, before a rocky outcrop and distant buildings on the banks of a river, ochre band rim, the reverse inscribed Apolle & Marsia in blue script (cracked across and extensively restored and sprayed, restuck rim chip between 3 and 4 o'clock)
