14kt, in the Colonial Revival style, the hexagonal base with faceted stem and socket, with detachable nozzle, with gold-plated detachable candle socket and frame, and with pierced silver-gilt shade with parchment liner, the candlesticks marked X1909 14k, the sockets marked Gorham Co. 0328 PAT APR 29 1902, the shades marked Gorham sterling A7716

According to Gorham scholar, Sam Hough, the first gold candlestick of this design dates to 1911. The costing slip indicates that each candlestick contained 5 troy oz., 4 pennyweight of 14k gold, valued then at $70.98, with a net factory price of $168 per candlestick.
