Xiao Huirong, courtesy name "Gu Ren", currently holds the post of executive at the Chinese Artists' Association. He is also a member of the Xiling Seal Society, a fellow at the Zhejiang Research Institution of Chinese Art, and a guest lecturer at the Xi'an Institute of Fine Arts. From 2000 onwards, he held more than twenty well received solo exhibitions in various major cities, such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Taipei. His works are in the collection of prominent institutions such as the Beijing Palace Museum, China National Museum, China National Art Gallery, Sino-Japanese Friendship Club, Taipei's Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial, and the Hong Kong Cultural Museum. Xiao Huirong's own Plum Blossom Art Gallery is located in the Plum Blossom Hills, near Nanjing's Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum.
In Flowers in Bloom, Xiao used agile and carefree brushstrokes to boldly depict clusters of red plum blossoms in full bloom; bamboo leaves in emerald green hue; rustic pine trees surrounded by orchids and grass; and bauhinias in rich, velvet red and violet tones. The aged plum tree is proudly stretching its young branches under the warm spring sun. The blooming flowers and evergreen leaves symbolize the longevity of the Chinese civilization, which stands steadfast with vitality after treading arduously through numerous hardships. The bright and magnificent bauhinia flowers, which represent the city of Hong Kong, are interlaced with the foliage, branches, and blossoms, reflecting the harmony between Hong Kong and China. The seemingly chaotic and claustrophobic composition actually contains intermittent "air holes" that serve as breathing spaces. These bountiful and blossoming flowers highlight the joys of new spring, with auspicious connotations in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
