The present watch is an outstanding example of a reference 6036, impressing by its beautiful, original silvered dial, enhanced by the rarity of the luminous accents and hands and the astoundingly sharp case. The gold marks underneath the lugs are crisp and the calendar correctors in the band seem hardly used. Furthermore, both the reference and serial numbers finely engraved inbetween the lugs are clearly legible and proof of the beautiful life the watch has enjoyed for decades.
In fact, for the trained collector's eye the most positive features to the watch are two light brown shadows in the shape of lozenges. One of them is located between the centre and the six minute past the hour position, the other one starting again at the centre and pointing towards the twenty-one minute past the hour position. The source of these shades can clearly be attributed to the luminous material of the hands which, in order to burn such pattern onto the silvered grainé surface of the dial, must have been in the very same position (six minutes past four) for several decades. Consequently, one can swiftly conclude that this watch has rested most of its life, without motion and therefore without wear, in a dry and dark location, probably a safe deposit box. This line of argument is completed when considering all the components of the watch individually, all having survived in close to mint and certainly unrestored condition.
Treasures like the present example are amongst the rarest trophies in today's market, a must for the discerning collector of extraordinary timepieces.
Reference 6036
Reference 6036, the third generation of the celebrated "Dato Compax" Oyster triple calendar chronograph model ever presented by Geneva's "crowned" watch manufacturer, was available with various dial layouts, cased mainly in yellow gold and in stainless steel.
