With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 10 March 1990 confirming production of the present watch with opaline-gilt dial and gold numerals. Furthermore delivered with the Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with gilded dial and yellow gold indexes in 1989 and its subsequent sale on 10 March 1990, gold and wooden setting pin and a burgundy presentation box.

Purchased by the present owner at the Salon Patek Philippe in Geneva in 1990, the watch has never been offered in public before and is preserved in very good overall condition. It is believed to be the only second example of a reference 3970 in yellow gold fitted with such a champagne dial to appear at auction.

The celebrated reference 3970 was in production from 1986 until 2005 when it was replaced by reference 5970. It is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 305.
