Zhukui refers to Li Zhukui (1894-1949), the son of Li Houqi (Wei Zhuang). The close bond between Zhang Daqian and the Li family can be seen in his relationship with Li Qiujun, a close friend and confidant, as well as by Zhang's travels to Shanghai in the 30's, when he would stay with the Li family. Zhang often gave paintings as gifts to the Li family. Li Zhukui immigrated to Shanghai with his father at a young age. He participated in the Xinhai Revolution, and continued to fight for Sun Yatsen's cause until 1924. His valiant efforts were awarded by a photo with Sun Yatsen. However, Li gave up politics and focused on his business after the Northern Expedition. A great collector of Chinese art, Li possessed many fine works by Zhang Daqian.
