In early 1954 an exhibition of Jamini Roy's paintings was held in Delhi. Mary D. Taylor, then residing in Ludhiana, was invited to attend and subsequently met the artist. Taylor acquired Mother and Child at this time and it has since hung for over fifty-five years in her home in the United States.
