The Heuer "Monaco" model was created in 1969 to honour the Grand Prix of Monaco. The watch featured a revolutionary new design of a water-resistant square case combined with the world's first automatic chronograph movement with a micro-rotor.
During this period, Steve McQueen was turning the movie "Le Mans" and was given the watch to wear. It appears that he liked it so much that, once the movie finished, he decided to keep it.
Due to its popularity, the model has recently been relaunched in a slightly modified version.
