With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 20 August 1985 and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and gold indexes in 1985 and its subsequent sale on 3 September 1985. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe original fitted wooden presentation box and outer packaging.
Demanding collectors are always seeking the rarest and most beautiful. In instances where a collectors watch was made in a certain number of identical pieces, its exclusivity is softened by the fact that there are identical alikes available. In such situations it is the condition which makes the collectors item regain rarity and beauty and, most of all, its uniqueness. It is hence paramount to aficionados of Patek Philippe's famed reference 3450 to find a perfect example, ideally never polished and if at all possible still retaining its original certificate.
The present reference 3450 does not only meet all of these parameters but probably even exceeds its list of duties by furthermore being fresh to the market and also fitted with a detachable gold Patek Philippe bracelet. These elements, paired with its close to mint but certainly unpolished condition make it the reference 3450 to have.
In 1981, reference 3450, successor of reference 3448 (see lot 397 in this auction) was introduced into the market with the improved 27'460 QB (Quantième Bissextile) calibre. The model differs from its predecessor by the modified leap year indication, the eccentric small window at 4 o'clock. The first series was made with a simple red disk and Arabic numerals, the second, such as the present watch, with Roman I, II, III and IV leap year indication.
A total of 244 examples of reference 3450 were made, the majority in yellow gold cases, only two in white gold are known to date.
Production of both references 3448 and 3450 was discontinued in 1985 when reference 3940 was launched.
Reference 3450 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 290, pl. 449a.
