With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial, raised gold hour markers and tachometer scale in 1943 and its subsequent sale on 6 March 1944. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe contemporary brown presentation box.

The reference 1518 offered here for sale is distinguished by the oversized Arabic numerals, rendering it a different, more prominent appearance. Research confirms that this dial variant was exclusively available during the war years for a short period only. In fact, only six examples of Patek Philippe's legendary perpetual calendar chronograph fitted with such dial layout are known to have survived to date.

The present reference 1518 furthermore stands out by its very appealing, clean overall condition. Clearly seldom used, it shows only light signs of surface wear; the case is rich and retains strong case proportions for a nearly 70 year old wristwatch. The gold marks in the left side and underneath the lower right lug are clearly visible.

Fresh to the market and consigned by one of the world's most prominent private collectors, this rare timepiece will undoubtedly attract considerable interest amongst aficionados of the celebrated reference 1518.

Reference 1518
Reference 1518 was launched in 1941 and according to literature, only 281 examples were made until 1954, the majority cased in yellow gold. It was furthermore the first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch produced in series by any watch company. The model was later replaced by reference 2499, also a perpetual calendar chronograph, but with a wider diameter and fluted lugs.
