'The great bronze hares which Barry Flanagan has been producing since the 1980s are one of the most personal and recognisable artistic endeavours of the second half of this century. Spectacular in size, bitingly ironic and bold, as well as terribly individualistic, they are totally unlike what we normally see in museums and galleries around the world.' (E. Juncosa, Barry Flanagan, exh. cat., Waddington Galleries, London, 1994, p. 5).

Nijinski Hare on Globe Form, Mirrored is a quintessential work that reveals Flanagan's infusion of age-old sculptural tradition with freshness, creative passion and a unique sense of joie de vivre. Executed in bronze, the pair of sculptures is a knowing nod to an artistic tradition that is often associated with monuments full of pathos and grandeur. Not only is the work a sophisticated composition of slender elongated shapes, symmetry and elegant poise; the artist has allowed his creative spirits to run free with his irreverent sense of humour and whimsicality. With a burst of joyous energy, Flanagan's iconic hares give a striking sculptural form - at once inviting the viewer to join in on the artist's celebration of nature, life and happiness.
