Michele Cascella's paintings can be described in two words: chromatism and light.
Growing up in Abruzzo, surrounded by the region's gentle landscape, highly influenced his growth as an artist. In 1908 he was in Paris exhibiting at the Galerie Drout, and while there the direct encounter with of post-impressionists works, in particular Sisley's brightness and use of colour, made a long-lasting impact on Cascella. Though he travelled extensively and lived in Argentina and America, one of his favourite locations was the Liguria region, especially the bay of the village of Portofino. Moving away from his contemporary Cubists and Futurists, Cascella recurrently depicts the bay in an accurate and realistic way, always trying to capture on the canvas the joy of this lively, colourful and full of atmosphere part of the world.
