The Mercator model was launched in 1994 to honor the memory of the famous cartographer and humanist Gerardus Mercator on the 400th anniversary of his death. The present dial represents the map of South-East Asia as drawn by Gerardus Mercator in 1587. The present lot is number 6 of a limited series of only 30 examples.
