Daniel Vauchez (or Vauche or Vaucher) qualified as a Master in 1767 and grew his reputation through the quality of his work. He set up an atelier in the Rue du Petit Lion St-Sauveur from 1769-1790. His specialty was decorated watches that included enamel and stones.
The Vaucher watchmakers of Fleurier
The name Vaucher is of considerable importance in Fleurier's watch industry and their particular specialty was pocket watches. It's notable that in 1750 a total of 28 different Vaucher families resided in Fleurier. While they shared a common ancestor, the members did not consider themselves of close relation, adding on names such as a wedding name or location to distinguish themselves, such as "Vaucher sur-les-Moulins" and"Vaucher du Guilleri".
The Vaucher watchmakers crafted watches with automatons and lavishly decorated cases for aristocratic customers, an engraved signature bearing witness to their craft. Their work is highly prized and resides in museums and private collections.
