Manjunath Kamath explores the logic and aesthetic qualities of emptiness in his work. Raised amidst the South Indian ritual practise of Yakshagana, a traditional narrative performance play incorporating dance, Kamath became fascinated with the dynamic and crowded atmosphere and overwhelming stillness which lingered when the event was over. The artist is also influenced by the sparse dream-like canvases of senior Indian artist Prabhakar Barwe.
Kamath's works are included in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and the Alkazi Art Foundation and Art Heritage Gallery, also in New Delhi.
