With Observatoire de Besançon Bulletin de Marche number 718 dated 14 September 1977, Omega test sheet, instruction manual and original red presentation box.
The first prototype of the Megaquartz 2400, developed by Omega in collaboration with the Battelle Institute of Geneva, was presented at the Basel Fair in 1970 and was officially introduced in the market in 1974.
With its precision of one second a month, around 10 times superior to any other quartz watch, the model was and still is considered one of the most accurate wristwatches in the world. The accuracy results from a specially designed resonator, sealed in a capsule and vibrating at an extraordinary rate of 2,359,296 times a second, awarding the model with the title of "Marine Chronometer".
Similar watches are illustrated in Omega Saga, by Marco Richon, p. 277 and in A Journey through Time, by Marco Richon, p.201, 202 and 375.
