Full plate mechanical verge movement, chain fusée, plain three-arm balance, pierced and engraved balance cock depicting two phantasy birds and scroll decoration, gilt dial centred by three engraved heads and scroll decoration, black Roman numerals on individual white enamel cartouches, single blued steel hand, inner enamel ring for quarter hour divisions, hinged case, the reverse and band with floral and scroll decoration, movement signed

Jerôme Martinot and his father Jean were both clock and watchmakers appointed to the court of King Louis XIV. Jerôme lived in Paris from 1697 until his death in 1732 and is credited with having built a very complex astronomical clock.
