With Cartier Certificate of Authenticity numbered GE2012-25 and dated 20 February 2012 confirming that the watch was retailed by Cartier New York in 1920 and is decorated with 95 diamonds and triangular onyx at each corner.
The present watch is a paradigm for Art Deco elegance for which the house of Cartier has always been foremost. It impresses with the highly attractive combination of a platinum case embellished with diamonds and black onyx, the matching bracelet and the very good and original overall condition. The unusual 13-row mesh bracelet, although not mentioned in the records of Cartier, is from the same period and it can safely be assumed that it was added shortly after the sale at the original owner's request.
The model name is derived from the popular French card game called "Le Jeu Du Nain Jaune", game of the yellow dwarf, the shape of the game board resembling the shape of the dial surrounded by the four onyx triangles.
A similar "nain jaune" model is described and illustrated in The Cartier Collection - Timepieces, Editions Flammarion, p. 120, and in Le Temps by Cartier by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti, Franco Nencini, p. 70.
