Robert and Nicolas Descharnes have confirmed the authenticity of this work.

In the present lot, Dalí has appropriated a found object in the shape of a snail and has morphed it into the torso of a woman. Employing the snail's antennae as breasts, Dalí has carefully carved into this resin sculpture to transform the snail's body into a human one. The snail's shell remains untouched, thus causing the sculpture in its finished state to appear part human, part snail, continuously oscillating between the two forms. This oscillation also references the fact that snails are hermaphroditic creatures, both male and female at once.
