Waggoner Ranch. said to be the largest ranch in Texas under one fence, was settled by Dan Waggoner in the early 1850s, and later expanded by his son W.T. (Tom) with interests in ranching, oil and cultivation. Tom had three children, including one daughter, Electra born in 1882, who he involved in the directorship of the Ranch. Electra married Albert Wharton in 1902 and thought of settling in the Northeast. She spent much of her time in Philadelphia and New York, where she bought the present lot. Among Tom's efforts to keep his daughter in Texas was renaming the town of Electra, Texas after her in 1907. She remained in Texas and bequeathed the present lamp to her son upon her death in 1925.
