CHRISTOPHE CLARET. AN EXTREMELY RARE AND UNIQUE OVERSIZED PVD-COATED TITANIUM SINGLE-PUSHER PLANETARY-GEAR CHRONOGRAPH WITH STRIKING SYSTEM AND TOURBILLON WRISTWATCH WITH TWO ROLLING BELT INDICATORS
Modernity and Originality: A Collector's Pursuit for Excellence A collector is not the same as an "accumulator". For a collector, it is not about a random amassment of objects; the collection reflects a way of life and a philosophy which is at once emotional and intellectual. For a collector of timepieces, forming a collection is particularly challenging due to the many choices and subjects in the realm of haute horlogerie. In this private collection of twenty timepieces by some of the world's most prestigious watchmakers and manufacturers, it is clear that much thought has been given to the selection which is governed by three elements. The first is a fascination with the notion of time and history, where one continues to seek and to measure the immeasurable. The second is a passion for all things mechanical, where abstract ideas are translated into drawings which are then put into movement. The third is an admiration of all things beautiful, where craftsmanship, skill and aesthetics are combined to form the perfect timepiece. The fascination with the evolution of modern horology is apparent in this collection with the choice of brands. On the one hand, there are timepieces made by some of the world's most traditional brands with histories which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries such as Breguet, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, while on the other hand, there is an appetite for modernity and originality is whetted by the most innovative and cutting-edge movements and designs by watchmakers as diverse as Franck Muller, Richard Mille and Lange & Söhne, the more established "doyens" of contemporary watchmaking as well as the most sought-after "niche" brands such as Christophe Claret, Mâitres du Temps and HD3. The passion for complications is yet another denominator which runs throughout the collection. Each watch is a showcase for complex movements, in particular, the tourbillon which is present in the majority of the timepieces. Other complications include chronographs, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars. In most cases, the timepieces are a combination of several complications including the crowning glory of the collection - the Franck Muller "MEGA 4 AETERNITAS" with 36 complications, the most complicated watch in the world which include the tourbillon, Grande and Petite Sonnerie, Westminster Chines, Equation of time, two independent dual time dials, perpetual calendar, split seconds chronograph and 999 year indication. Each watch in the collection is a result of years of research and development, hundreds of meticulously crafted components and many hours of skilled craftsmanship from some of the most accomplished watchmakers in the industry. Finally the last dominating theme throughout the collection is the search for elegance, refinement and beauty. In many cases, high technology is combined with luxury and glamour in many diamond-set examples. From the timeless elegance of the classical designs of Patek Philippe, Breguet and Audemars Piguet, to the distinctive shapes of the Richard Mille and Franck Muller designs, to the most audacious and revolutionary creations from Christophe Claret and HD3, this collection is the unique vision of a collector who values the highest level of creativity and craftsmanship and is open to new possibilities and new mechanics that high horology can offer.

Christophe Claret is truly in a league of his own. For 20 years, Christophe Claret is the best kept secret among the world's most famous watch brands as the hidden talent who develops and produces the components of some of their most innovative complications. As few brands would admit to subcontracting the creation of their most complex models, beyond a small circle of aficionados, the name of Christophe Claret is little known to the public at large. Claret is not only a creator and developer; his manufacture also designs the complex machines used to make the components by researching the most cutting-edge technology. In essence, the Claret manufacture is the watch industry's one-stop solution for possibly the world's most complicated movements. As Christophe Claret once said, "The tourbillon is our most standard escapement."

2009 marked the 20th anniversary of the Claret manufacture and a turning point for Christophe Claret when he decided to launch his own brand with the creation of the exclusive timepiece, the DualTow, a single-pusher planetary-gear chronograph with striking system and tourbillon. A reflection of the innovation, expertise and excellence which is inherent to the Claret manufacture, the DualTow is an amalgamation of the wide variety of skills within the company. From the development of the Dualtow's highly complex movement which houses several inventions including on patented innovation, to the manufacture of each component of its futuristic looking case, each operation was performed in-house by Christophe Claret's team of experienced technicians and craftsmen.

The present DualTow NightEagle is a unique example and is for the first time offered at auction.

At the 2010 Baselworld watch fair, the Dualtow returns in an even more sophisticated version. The design of the watch takes its inspiration from the sleek lines and muted colours of stealth aircrafts such as the American F-117 Night Hawk, as well as the world of heavy machinery with its caterpillar track belt-type display, at the same time the colours of black and white allude to the coat of the royal eagle, giving rise to the intriguing name for this series - the Night Eagle.
