HUANG JUNBI (1898-1991)
LOTS 3070-3071 COLLECTION OF XU BOJIAO Xu Bojiao (1913-2002) was a very well-known Hong Kong collector. Through Xu Bojiao's efforts, both the famous rubbing album Er Xi Tie and Gu Hongzhong's Night Revels of Han Xizai, which was the most important object collected by Zhang Daqian, and also Dong Yuan's Xiao Xiang Tu returned to China. Zhang Daqian and Xu Bojiao knew each other for decades, and they had a very solid friendship. By referencing Lu You's poem "If you want to learn poetry, you must understand that gaining knowledge is of the same import as learning poetry itself". Xu Bojiao named his house "Shi Wai Yi", and Zhang Daqian did a calligraphy of "Shi Wai Yi" as a gift to him. Xu Bojiao knew Zhang Daqian better than anyone else and had a superior background and a great knowledge of art collecting. As a result, his collection of the Zhang Daqian paintings is very highly valued. His collection not only showcases his good eye for art collecting, but also demonstrates his close friendship with Zhang Daqian. The book Collection of Zhang Daqian Paintings at Shi Wai Yi published by the National Bureau of Cultural Relics Press caused a sensation in the overseas art market. Xu's wife is Madame Feijing.
