With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1989 and its subsequent sale on 22 September 1989.

This superb example will most certainly gather the interest of avid collectors as the present reference is not only rare but is for the second time only available at auction to date. Consigned by the family of the original owner, the present example is fresh to the market and offered here in outstanding condition.

Patek Philippe launched the 3970 and 3971 in 1986. Both references were essentially the same, however reference 3970 was fitted with a solid snap on back, whereas reference 3971 was fitted with a glazed screw back. Patek Philippe ended production of reference 3971 in 1990 and merged both references 3970 & 3971 together with the new reference 3970 offering a solid and additional sapphire crystal display back.
