With fitted box.

Only three other boxes of similar style bearing the maker's mark PG are known to exist today, the present one however being the only example still retaining the original fitted shagreen presentation box.

Although the goldsmith with the maker's mark "PG" has not been identified to date, his work is of outstanding quality, comparable to the work of the renowned watchmakers and goldsmiths Isaac Daniel Piguet (1775-1841) and Henry Capt (1773-1841), located in Geneva who specialised in musical and automaton watches also for the Chinese market.

A selection of items stamped "PG" are in the collection of the celebrated Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva. A musical gold box with the same maker's mark, dated 1790-1800, can be found in the Louvre in Paris.
