Launched in the early 1950's, reference 6062 is considered by many collectors as the ultimate Rolex wristwatch. In fact, together with reference 8171 (see lots 146 and 350 in this auction), it is one of only two models showing a full calendar, including moon phase indication.
Reference 6062 combines all key elements a demanding Rolex collector could expect: a sporty yet distinguished look, a complicated in-house movement with full calendar and moon phases indication housed in a purist Oyster design case. As a result, this reference is considered as the pinnacle for the savvy Rolex connoisseur.
Highly exclusive, examples in stainless steel are particularly rare to have survived in such condition. The present example must be considered as one of the finest and most original stainless steel examples known to exist.
The case is in remarkable condition with crisp serial and reference numbers in between the lugs, the dial is in original condition displaying a warm off-white grené finish and subtle patina in places. The calendar discs are in English and consequently makes the bracelet perfect sense as it was made by Rolex USA with its typical oval-shaped links. The movement shows very little surface wear and counting the small number of service marks inside the case back one swiftly concludes that this watch has spent more time in a box or vault than actually on someone's wrist.
The present 6062 must be considered with all the attention that it deserves. Its future owner will enjoy this collector's trophy, a beautiful and charismatic example of a Rolex reference 6062, that meets all requirement of a distinguished gentleman collector.
