One of two bronzes modeled by Charles Schreyvogel, 'The Last Drop' was developed from the artist's maquette for his 1900 painting of the same name. Devoted to accuracy, he would create clay models from observation of live horses and then paint based on his sculptures. The present model was first cast by an unknown foundry and then by Roman Bronze Works. Other examples of this work can be found in several public collections, including the Newark Museum, Newark, New Jersey; National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming; Rockwell Museum of Western Art, Corning, New York; and Museum of Western Art, Denver, Colorado.
