The "Bird on a Rock" design originates from 1976 when Jean Schlumberger proposed it as a mounting for the renowned Tiffany Diamond, a 121.58 carat cushion-shaped yellow diamond which was bought by Charles L. Tiffany in 1877 for $18,000. The diamond at that stage had already been in the Jewellery houses possession for nearly 70 years and still remains on display in their Fifth Avenue store today. The "Bird on a Rock" symbolizes one of the most recognized and iconic designs made by Tiffany & Co.
