All of Serse’s works are drawings in graphite on card and mounted on aluminium. Their main characteristic? If you are not familiar with the artist’s work, the drawings can be mistaken for photographs, such is the meticulousness and perfection of the images. We also fell for the trick, so we therefore wanted to explore his universe, dominated by poetry, in more depth. Someone wrote that his are “picture-windows opened wide onto graphite landscapes”. It seems, almost, that the artist wishes to pursue the sublime, nature in its reality (and its indifference), impressing a sort of timeless breath on his precious drawings. Unique in this creative practice, on the contemporary Italian scene, Serse offers a microcosm in which to lose oneself, pursuing the metaphor that the work suggests. His eye is attentive, profound and probing into the smallest details of reality: it seems to have scrutinised the natural element of interest under the microscope, before setting out to recreate it. For him it is possible “to halt” even a breath of wind on water: he reproduces it faithfully, with apparent detachment, but at the same time, with a sort of mysticism.
