Jeanne Hébuterne is one of the brightest but also one of the most cursed figures in Art History, along with Vincent van Gogh, Camille Claudel, Chaïm Soutine and Amedeo Modigliani. Of course her name is inseparable from the Livornesi painter. Their tragic ending in the heart of Winter 1920, transformed them in an iconic couple who inspired the movie industry. However Jeanne Hébuterne is first of all an accomplished artist whose original works offered a rare intensity. Remaining in the shadow of Modigliani, her work vanished behind the legend of their passion and their tragic destiny. It was because of the loyalty of her brother André that her work will be saved. The publication of Marc Restellini's book in 2008 will re-establish her art. Placed beside a drawing that Jeanne received as a gift from her companion, the two works by Jeanne that we are presenting - Self-portrait and Woman wearing a hat - witness a great talent.
