Peonies

The recipient of this painting, Minzhi, is the daughter of noted photographer Lang Jingshan (1892-1995) and artist Lei Peizhi. They were very close friends with Zhang Daqian - in 1972, upon hearing of Minzhi's restaurant opening in New York, he painted this present piece and gifted it to her. The inscription also suggests his deteriorating eye condition at the time.
