'I'm thrilled to be able to support The Eve Appeal through something as simple as the donation of a painting. It seems a small ask in consideration of the vital and incredible work they do to raise awareness and fund research' (Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, 2014).

Female artists have always been working away, but the acceptance and celebration of their work has often taken longer to follow. While the female form itself has long been represented throughout art history, the strong and determined characters of the Feminist movement smashed the age-old pedestal and today, we celebrate the art of women with the same enthusiasm and passion as we do for their counterparts. The works included in this sale represent a carefully curated selection, all generously donated directly from the artists.

The Eve Appeal is the UK’s only national charity raising funds for all five gynaecological cancers. Every day, 53 women in the UK are diagnosed with one of these cancers, of which 21 will lose the battle they have been fighting. The Eve Appeal is determined to change this and this auction will raise funds to ensure that we can continue its important work of funding research in this field.
The international scope of the artists who have chosen to participate demonstrates the truly universal call to action that The Eve Appeal inspires amongst its supporters. I would like to thank Francis Outred, Bianca Chu and the First Open LDN team at Christie’s for their support as well as the generosity of the artists, their galleries and their studios.

‘I am very pleased to support The Eve Appeal in raising money to fight women’s cancers while celebrating the talent of female artists – I hope you will support this event by bidding for the works in this auction’ (Iwona Blazwick OBE, Director, Whitechapel Gallery, 2014).
