One of the rarest and most sought after Submariner models ever produced, reference 6205 was exclusively available in 1954 and 1955 and made in an exceedingly small series only. It was presumably Rolex's third diver's watch, featuring many new enhancements compared to its predecessor reference 6204, most notably the increased depth resistance of 100 meters and the larger crown (6 mm.) for better handling, dial with gilt printing but without the depth rating and only some models featured the designation "Submariner". The bezels were without minute divisions and a silver triangle.

Its black lacquer dial shows an incredibly charismatic grainy patina which has formed naturally over the years, due to various atmospheric influences and sunlight. The attractively discoloured luminous material to numerals and hands displays a fascinating sand tone with the 6 o'clock hour marker showing a lighter tone, a particularity often seen on early Rolex sports watches. The case, never exposed to careless polishing, impresses any beholder with its full body and sharp angles to the facets of the lugs.
