AN EXCEPTIONAL PAIR OF MULTI-GEM AND GOLD HORSE HEADS, BY HERBERT HASELTINE
The mare, 'Lakshmi', adorned with a sculpted quartz feather, a rose-cut diamond, sapphire cabochon and pearl bridle, a rose-cut diamond collar, and a sculpted gold braid mane embellished with ruby, emerald and sapphire cabochons, pearls and rose-cut diamonds; The stallion, 'Indra', ornamented with a carved emerald pearl, ruby cabochon and carved gold panache, and a vari-cut multi-gem bridle and collar, each on a quartz base, 1949, 40.0 and 32.5 cm respectively, in two black leather fitted cases
Inscribed with the artist monogram and the date, 1949
Accompanied by report no. 10-G-3157 and 10-G-3158 dated 17 August 2010 from the GemTechLab stating that some of the sapphires and rubies are of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating, and that some of the emeralds are of Colombian origin, with indications of oil treatment, and an appendix on the artist and his work (2)
