We are grateful to the Alexej von Jawlensky Archive for additional information in relation to this lot. The correct title is Variation: Herbst, and the correct measurements are 15 3/8 x 11 1/4 in. (38.8 x 28.3 cm.). The amended provenance should read: The artist's estate, and thence by descent; Galerie Anne Abels, Cologne; Acquired from the above by the father of the present owners on 14 November 1959. The work was also exhibited at: Lyon, Musée des Beaux Arts, Alexej von Jawlensky, June – September 1970, no. 32 (titled Automne lumineux and incorrectly catalogued as oil on cardboard).
