According to the Archives of Omega the present watch was delivered to Italy on 7 September 1960.

The present timepiece is a wonderful example of the famous Speedmaster family. Reference 2998 was the first one to mount the black bezel. Until then, with the exception of some very late 2915-3, the bezel was metal. On top of the historical appeal and rarity of the watch, it has to be noted that the dial shows signs of tropicalization. At the moment it has acquired an even and deep dark chocolate tone, and it is probable the process will go on with time, rendering the piece more and more unique and attractive as time goes by.
