Respected Dutch conceptual artist Ger van Elk’s Mont Blanc Mountain demonstrates one of the polymath’s recurring ways of working: the retouched photograph. Its title refers to the luxury pen brand, and the ink with which van Elk has modified this image of a mountain. This act of mediation, in addition to adding a new element of aesthetic interest to the photograph, is in line with van Elk’s position on the deceptive nature of the photograph, which he wanted to draw attention to through its manipulation.
