In his large-scale drawings the multimedia artist Edgar Arceneaux imagines alchemical transformations in a surreal urban environment. Executed in 2007 Untitled is part of an ongoing series that evokes a dark, but hopeful side to the kinds of playful utopian visions seen in Claes Oldenburg’s unrealized series of monuments from the 1960s. On the left of the composition a lorry and trailer twist and contort against a daunting charcoal black background. As a mysterious fist-like yellow band of colour makes contact with the trailer, light jettisons out of the lorry’s headlamps arching across the infinity space illuminating Arceneaux’s imposing work.
