This work will be included in the forthcoming supplement of the Edouard Vuillard catalogue critique currently being prepared by the Wildenstein Institute.

The present lot relates to Vuillard's painting, Philippe Berthelot dans un bureau, 1928. Berthelot was a celebrated French diplomat who played an influential role in international relations during World War I. As Secretary General of the French Foreign Office and hence chief of its permanent staff, Berthelot was for many years the man who directed French foreign policy.
