The two artists, Meret Oppenheim and Alberto Giacometti, met each other in 1933 in Paris where they were part of the Surrealist movement. From this short time in Paris and from many visits to Giacometti's atelier came a drawing that she called Das Ohr von Giacometti/The Ear of Giacometti. It served as a point of reference for the statue that Oppenheim had cast in bronze much later, in 1977.
