Ever since the Reform and Opening-up Policy was implemented in China , t h e economy developed rapidly and the quality of people's life have been gradually improved. A rare socialistic "main melody" piece from Cai Guo-qiang, Sunset at the Great Wall (Lot 153) was created in 1987. He chose to use earthy colours like brown and amber, together with burgundy and navy, to carefully illustrate the beautiful and symbolic Great Wall under sunset . A few brushstrokes outline several pigeons flying over the sky, suggesting that the peace in contemporary China didn't come easy. The Great Wall stretched along the mountains into the distance that the end is not visible to our eyes. Both the interesting composition and the rich colour selections speak out to us about the artist's genuine love towards his homeland China.
