The "Santos" wristwatch was originally designed by Cartier's founder, Louis Cartier in 1904 for the prominent Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont in answer to his friend's request to be able to check the time while flying. Cartier created the "Santos 100" in 2004 to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
