According to the archives of OMEGA SA the present watch was delivered to the U.S. in March 1959.

The Speedmaster reference 2998 was the successor of the original Speedmaster: the reference 2915. The present watch features an attractive and rich 'tropical' dial. Furthermore, it retains its rare original "BASE 1000" aluminum bezel. These bezels were often replaced over time.

Examples of the reference 2998 with tropical dials and original bezels are of incredible interest to astute collectors around the world.

An example of the reference 2998 is illustrated and described in OMEGA, A Journey Through Time by Marco Richon, 2007, p. 596
